On 7 June the new Gambling Act was approved by the Riksdag (the Swedish Parliament). A new license system will be in force from 1 January 2019.
Stakeholders show great interest in the Re-regulation of the Swedish gambling market, also internationally. Many operators have already shown interest in applying for a license in Sweden, which, according to plan, shall be possible from 1 August.
We are now waiting for the Government to approve a new Gambling Regulation. Once done, we can publish the application documents on our website. The Gambling Regulation is expected to be approved at the earliest on 5 July. The application documents could then be made available from 10 July, unless they need to be adjusted as a result of the Gambling Regulation.
The Swedish Gambling Authoritys’ regulations and guidelines should be pre-published on the website after 24 July. These will preliminary be in force on 1 September.
Preliminary timetable for application documents and regulations
- 5 July the Government is expected to approve a new Gambling Regulation which further regulates in more detail the new Gambling Act. The Gambling Regulation also contains application fees and mandate to the Gambling Authority.
- 10 July application documents are expected to be published on the Swedish Gambling Authority´s website (if they do not need to be adjusted as a result of the Gambling Regulation).
- After 24 July the regulations and guidelines of the Swedish Gambling Authority will be pre-published on the website. These will preliminary be in force on 1 September.
